Nvidia Graphics Software Widget

Lately, I’ve been having a problem with a recurring Blue Screen of Death. Most of the time the errors are nondescript and generic. Every once and a while I end up with the error referring to the nv4_mini.sys. As of yet I have not been able to find a direct solution to the problem. My PC is running
– Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3 (just updated this evening; the last blue screen error moved me to take the plunge)
– Intel Pentium 4 1.8 GHz
– 1 GB of RAM

As this was a “hand me down” PC and I care not what the graphics card is as long as my monitor will work I haven’t a clue exactly which Nvidia product is in my machine. This is why I thought it appropriate to add the Nvidia widget within this post. That way both you, my readers, and I can check which Nvidia graphics software and drivers we need for our PCs both new and ailing.

Side Note

Not long after I got this PC about 2 years ago it began with the chronic case of BSOD. These were caused in large part by the USB Controller available in the system. I learned after much research that the controller on the board was WAAAAAAY out of date and not compatible with Windows XP. I checked the Microsoft knowledge base for any help and discovered there is a hotfix for this problem – with a caveat. The catch is you have to call Microsoft, pay them $60/hr, and allow them to determine whether or not the hotfix is right for you. Honestly, at this point spending money on this PC is not a high priority especially if the rest of it is nearing deaths door anyway. Given that the PC is old, not under any kind of warranty why should Microsoft have to decide if it’s OK for me to load the hotfix. I say if I want to fry my PC then it’s my problem!
