MHO Monday Mingle: Questions About High School

MHO Monday Mingle #5

1. What was your favorite memory in HIGHSCHOOL?

Our Senior year High School production of West Side Story.  My best friend in high school and I had a hand in choreographing the musical’s dance numbers and I was privileged to play the role of  ‘Anita’.  My big number “I Like to Be in America” made the cover of the local paper in one of the most provocative, although still high school appropriate dance moves of the evening :$.  This was great fun because I wasn’t a jock or a cheerleader.  I was a nerd and kept to myself.  Choir was my outlet; I loved to sing. . . and still do.

2. If you could do one thing over in HIGHSCHOOL, what would it be?
Not much.  I kept myself out of trouble, got good grades and was generally happy.  I guess one thing I would have changed is not listen to the haters, boys and girls, who called me thunder thighs, chubby and teacher’s pet.  I did my work and never garnered favor unfairly from teachers.  I didn’t bring them apples or presents; I just paid attention in class.  As far as the weight thing goes – I looked absolutely fabulous in high school.  I know that now.  There was NOTHING at all fat or thunder thigh-like about me in high school.  I’ve apologized to my mother for all the tear filled self loathing sessions she had to endure after my being berated by idiots at school just because I wasn’t an anorexic size 2.
3. Did you have a HIGHSCHOOL sweetheart? Do you still keep in contact with him?
Nope. Never had a boyfriend in high school.   I learned later that no one even attempted to ask me out because they were intimidated by me.  After my senior year my brother was the one who let me in on that all the guys in three grades below me though I was hot.   A fact that would have made high school a little more bearable had I known it while I was there :P.
4. Have you attended a HIGHSCHOOL reunion yet? If so, how was it? If not, what do you think it will or could have been like?
Nope.  Never been invited.  Valedictorian of my class and I’ve never been invited.  Needless to say I have no desire whatsoever to go back.
5. Do you think you were popular in HIGHSCHOOL?  Do you think if you went back now it would be the same or different? Feel free to post any pictures of you from highschool.

Hah! Popular? What’s that? I befriended those who had no one.  The broken and tattered who longed for acceptance.  That didn’t exactly make me popular.  Being serious about my education didn’t make me popular either.  There were days that it bothered me, but for the most part I didn’t want to be part of the elite.  I saw how the acted and treated others and I knew that wasn’t the place for me.
