//

Thanks to CV Skinlabs and BrandBacker I received samples of product for the purposes of this review.

When I saw this assignment for CV Skinlabs on BrandBacker I felt compelled to apply because my oldest daughter has very sensitive, dry skin with patches of eczema on the insides of her arms.  Though through diet we’ve been able to keep the eczema from spreading and becoming extremely irritated or pustulating like it used to she still requires a lot of skin protection.  We discovered a few years ago that she is gluten intolerant and after removing all wheat and other gluten containing grains from her diet we noticed that the plaques she used to have on the backs of her legs disappeared and the ones on her arms significantly diminished.  Dryer times with indoor heat are upon on that strip her skin of much needed moisture.  She’s constantly itching the insides of her arms so lotion in our house is plentiful.  It’s frustrating to shop not only for food but also for skin care.  I have to meticulously read labels to make sure that the creams or lotions do not contain wheat derivatives and also any citrus because they burn her sensitive skin.   There are too many times to count that I’ve had to bathe her again after putting a lotion on her that irritated her skin or caused an allergic reaction.

The samples I received were pocket size and I only had 7 days from receipt to give my assessment.  Knowing that it takes at least 21-28 days for skin to show improvement under any treatment my assessment is only cursory.  I received a 1 oz. sample of Calming Moisture lotion, .25 oz. sample of Restorative Skin Balm and a single use Xela Pack of Body Repair Lotion.  Let me just say that I was disappointed that the Body Repair Lotion was the smallest sample and not resealable.  Of all of them I thought this one would be the most useful so I had to use a bobby pin to fold over the opening of the Xela Pack and store it very carefully so I could use it more than once.

Calming Moisture

Advanced therapy for dry, sensitive face, neck and scalp

From the manufacturer –

This super-rescue moisturizer helps to immediately calm, hydrate and nourish chronically dry and flushed skin while returning radiance. Designed for all sensitive skin types.  Ideal for soothing skin irritated  from the effects of microdermabrasion, laser treatments, retinol use, chemical peels, excess sun exposure or chemotherapy.  Skin is left soft, moist and glowing.

It provides anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antihistamine benefits to the skin with an exclusive blend of Turmeric, Bisabolor and Reishi Mushroom (Tri-Rescue Complex).  Other key ingredients include Beta Glucan, Aloe Vera and Oat Extract.  It is suggested to be used on a clean face, neck or scalp morning and night. Because of the extreme dryness in the house this time of year my daughter started exhibiting extreme dryness around her eyes, nose and chin.  The Calming Moisture cream could not have come at a better time.  I helped her apply the cream to these areas which were starting to get flaky they were so dry.  The lotion was not too thick or goopy, but had a nice whipped texture that went on easy and absorbed quickly.  In this case it only took a few days of application to see an improvement.

Restorative Skin Balm –

Advanced Therapy for Severely Dry, Cracked Skin

From the manufacturer

This petrolatum-free, nourishing salve moisturizes and helps protect from environmental aggressors.  Instantly softens severely dry, rough and chapped skin including lips, cuticles, eczema, cuts, scrapes, IV areas, abrasions, chaffing, new scars and any other areas needing TLC.

In addition to the Tri-Rescue Complex other key ingredients include calendula, sea buckthorn oil, arnica, carnauba + bee’s wax, and vitamin E.  I used this a few times on the insides of my daughter’s arms that were very irritated and on all our lips to alleviate chapping.  This applied like petroleum jelly and sat on the skin more thickly.  I would not recommend using this over large areas that are not going to be covered somehow to prevent leaving greasy streaks everywhere you go.  For me personally I did not care for how it felt on my lips.  The formulation made the dry skin on my lips feel sharp and stick up even more which didn’t help my tendency to pull at those bits with my teeth when they scratch at my lips.  My daughters though are such patient and nice little girls they did not complain about the feel or the lack of scent or taste.  They were just happy to have some relief.  This was good on my daughters arms at bedtime but had to be covered with long sleeves so it didn’t stain her sheets.

Body Repair Lotion

Advanced Therapy for Dry, Irritated Skin

From the Manufacturer –

Ultra-soothing, fast absorbing, deeply hydrating body lotion that replenishes and soothes dry, inflamed skin while immediately restoring radiance.  Designed for all skin types.  Ideal for dermatitis, eczema, radiation burns, and for soothing irritation from post laser hair removal, waxing and shaving.  Skin is left soft and nourished with a healthy glow.

In addition to the exclusive Tri-Rescue Complex the Body Repair Lotion also includes –

  • Beta Glucan & St. John’s Wort to improve collagen production and wound healing.
  • Calendula & Aloe to calm, sooth and provide anti-inflammatory properties.

I used the Body Repair Lotion on my daughter’s arms daily to help reduce the redness and itching of her eczematous plaques.  The proof was in the pudding when she was able to go for hours without scratching her inner arms.  My hope is that this will eventually be able to reduce the plaque despite the indoor dryness.  It just breaks my heart to see her arm folds thick with ashy, flaky skin all cracked and irritated.
