The lessons were interesting and built upon each other. It will be neat to see how these new features will enhance the language learning experience.[/dropshadowbox]

March 14 – Brasov, Transylvania, Romania – ATi Studios, the creator of Mondly, a popular language learning platform with over 30 million downloads, is releasing MondlyAR, the first augmented reality language learning experience with speech recognition. Launched in collaboration with Google, the experience will be featured alongside the tech giant’s first wave of augmented reality apps.
MondlyAR offers language learners truly effective virtual lessons and purposeful conversations in seven languages (American English, British English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and German) from the comfort of their living rooms. Through the experience, a virtual teacher, Mondly, carries a humanlike conversation with the user, processing spoken language and replying with a human voice and gestures.

The virtual teacher gives instant feedback on pronunciation and presents the student with virtual objects –  planets, animals, musical instruments and more – that interact with the user for a more engaging, immersive lesson. By incorporating these lifelike elements in the lessons, students are more likely to understand, process, and retain what they are taught.

Mondly’s team built MondlyAR with ARCore, the Android software development kit that Google launched in February 2018. Mondly collaborated closely with Google to build the augmented reality experience. “Launching MondlyAR with the support of Google is tremendously exciting, and reinforces our belief that we are at the forefront of innovation in augmented reality apps,” Mondly CEO Alex Iliescu said.
MondlyAR Disrupts Education, Brings AR to the People
Iliescu believes that Mondly’s augmented reality module will disrupt the way people learn: “ Our goal at Mondly has always been to lower the barriers to technology-based learning,” Iliescu said. “While MondlyVR was a huge step in the right direction, with the release of MondlyAR, headsets are no longer a barrier to enjoying completely immersive language lessons with a virtual teacher who responds to your needs as a student.”

MondlyAR is available on Google Play inside the Mondly mobile app. The introductory lessons are free and the complete experience can be accessed by purchasing Mondly Premium, which offers full access to lessons in 33 languages for $9.99/month or $47.99/year.

MondlyAR is powered by ARCore, which enables AR on 100 million Android devices (Samsung Galaxy S7, S8, S9, Note 8; Google Pixel 1, 2; LG V30, V30+ Android, ASUS Zenfone AR and OnePlus 5). MondlyAR currently offers lessons in seven languages, but the creators expect to be able to offer lessons no less than 30 languages in augmented reality by the next update in August 2018.

The company plans to launch MondlyAR in the Apple App Store by the end of the month.
