Oh how I wish this article was about me.  This post in the Daily SEO Blog from SEOMOZ.org gives details on how Larry Kim and his team at WordStream got the attention of the Wall Street Journal and 500 plus other media outlets.  His detailed presentation is fantastic.

 

Following Mr. Kim’s process for creating unique and newsworthy projects I believe that anyone organized enough can garner similar attention.  Granted WordStream’s Google revenue project was specialized and they had tools that are beyond our reach and personal interpretation.  That being said, this does not mean that within your own industry and area of expertise that you can’t find something that is a bit of a mystery or big secret that you can figure out in a scientific way and share.  

 

What I appreciated about Mr. Kim’s Google Revenue project is he used tools based on public information that Google itself makes available.  He found a way to gather and interpret the data.  There was no phone tapping, document stealing or underhanded investigation work.  Everything was on the up and up and available for anyone that has the proper tools to share.  

 

Keep that in mind when doing your projects.  By that I mean ETHICS.  That’s a subject for another day.
