TeeSpring.com Creative Crowdfunding Review

As entrepreneurs we are always looking for cool and creative new ways to engage people in our content, product, or cause in order to bring awareness and raise much needed capital.  TeeSpring.com allows you to use your creativity to bring attention to your brand, blog, website or charity without spending any money out of pocket.  TeeSpring is a crowdfunding website which allows anyone, yes anyone, to design a t-shirt in order to raise money.  I created a design and started a second campaign this morning.  Check it out –

I know it’s silly, but I couldn’t help myself. I heard that song, you know the one, and was thinking about fall bulb planting and how I wish it were spring already that this popped into my head!

Here’s how it works –

1.  Go to TeeSpring.com and create an account

2.  Start a new campaign by creating a new t-shirt.  You can either use graphics you’ve created or their text and graphics engine to design the front and or back of the t-shirt selected (various styles and qualities of tees are available for design and will impact the final cost per tee).

3. Finalize your campaign by choosing what is the minimum number of tees (typically set at 50) you’d like to have purchased before it’s sent to the printers.  You set the price for the tee and TeeSpring tells you the profit you’ll make after costs are covered.  YOU don’t pay anything upfront or even later – unless you buy a tee from your own campaign.  No tees are printed or credit card charges made until the full number of tees required is reached.  This way no one pays if the campaign isn’t filled.

4. Name your campaign, set a description of why people should buy, set the number of days the campaign will be active and then START.

5.  Share, share, share – get the word out about your campaign.  The more people you engage the more likely you’ll be to actually fill the quota and make anything for your charity or business (or yourself).

Like I mentioned there is no out of pocket cost.  If and only if the minimum quota of shirts sold is met will the campaign even go to the printers.  If not, then no one is charged for a shirt because no shirts will be made.  You can always go back and try again, and again, and again. You don’t even have to re-create the campaign if you are using the same design – you can merely relaunch.  Also, if you set your campaign to the maximum 22 days and you reach your quota early you have the option to end early and get it out to the printers asap.    Really, other than the few minutes it takes to create the campaign or the artwork if you want to there is really nothing to lose and everything to gain using this crownfunding method.

After looking at all the past TeeSpring campaigns I noticed that it was particularly beneficial for raising money for charity, to commemorate important events (Boston Strong, ie), and for websites or personalities which already have a lot of popularity online.  Very creative individuals will also benefit from this as they can have their sayings, drawing, photos or other artwork printed and publicized in this way.  I’m going to give this another shot and keep thinking of cool and silly designs for future crowdfunding campaigns with TeeSpring.

Disclaimer: Thanks to Sverve.com I was introduced to TeeSpring for the purposes of review.  My opinions are my own and based on my experiences with the service.
