Thanks to Kitchen Elite for sponsoring this review. They sent me a complimentary item for the purposes of review. The mandoline slicer is something I’ve always wanted to try but was afraid to. The exposed blade is something I’ve always found intimidating.

The Kitchen Elite V Shaped Mandoline Slicer has a finger guard which helps to hold the food. It made me a little less ill at ease to use it. The switching mechanism for the hardened plastic cutting inserts is very easy to lock and unlock. Not having to struggle with the guard removal or placement is a great comfort.

I’ve used the mandoline mainly to cut cruciferous tubers but it would work perfectly well on fruit and maybe even some more sturdy leafy greens like cabbage. It made easy work of Daikin radish to make an accompaniment salad for an Asian inspired taco dish.

I would not recommend it to slice meat. Out of curiosity I tried to slice chilled turkey breast on the mandoline. The slicing itself was successful. It was the cleanup that made the process not worth the trouble. Meat got caught in little slots and openings in the sides and bottom of the tool. It took brushing and toothpicks to remove it all.

As for cleansing of the device it’s fairly simple. The main body of the mandoline needs to be washed by hand in warm soapy water and should be dried immediately. The hardened plastic cutting inserts are top rack dishwasher safe.
