A Word About Nameservers and Website Security

If you have a website and your own domain and have never used CloudFlare before – GO RIGHT NOW AND SIGN UP.  CloudFlare (furthermore referred to as CF) is like a cushion of protection between your website and the outside world.  They track attacks as they happen and can route your traffic around them, preventing attackers from accessing your site.  When suspected attackers, phishers, and spammers are detected they put up walls using CAPTCHA to prevent them from even accessing your webpage. They also cache a live copy of your website just in case your web host’s server goes down.

On top of this CF makes switching web hosts easy as pie.  Whereas it used to take 8 to 48 hours after switching nameservers for your site to be live and working, CF makes this possible instantly.  When you sign up with CF you are assigned nameservers on their system.  These are the ones you enter into your domain registrar’s system.  Then in CF’s control panel you set up DNS records for your domain and all subdomains showing that they point to your current webhost’s IP address.  NameCheap made this really easy and even gave instructions on how to view my website on it’s new home before changing to their nameservers or in this case the IP address of their server used in CF.

Learn how to view your website before nameservers have been fully updated on the internet.
