Obagi Nu-Derm Matte Sunshield SPF 50 #Nu_Derm_Matte_Sun_Shield

When I started noticing exposure to the sun was starting to cause fine lines and discoloration I knew I had to be more diligent about wearing sunscreen. I’ve gotten to the point that I’ll wear makeup even when I’m working in the garden just for the sun protection. Even when I’m wearing a sun hat that covers my face I still wear SPF lotion of some kind. If the lotion is too oily, sticky, greasy, runny or thick it becomes a last resort application. I hate throwing even the worst performing ones. Even they’ll work in a pinch.

wpid-collage_20150628005136030.jpgObagi Nu-Derm sent me a small tube of their matte SPF 50 sun shield for review. “This sunscreen combines UVB absorption and UVA protection in an elegant, matte finish that is non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, non-acnegenic, and dermatologist tested. Sheer, PABA free, and fragrance free for all skin types.” Though the SPF was effective (I tested it on my arm first) the sample I received is going to my “last resort” drawer. At first the lotion went on my face fairly smooth. It seemed a little thick initially but I managed to smooth it out over my face and neck in no time. Within seconds the finish became satiny and matte. The problem was it felt like I was wearing a very thin mask of glue or rubber cement. The cream made me itchy and when I rubbed the areas for relief the lotion pulled up and rolled off my skin. The sensation was so aggravating that I ended up removing the lotion from my face with a warm wet washcloth. The makeup would have made it pill up anyway.

This lotion is not for me, at least not on my face. I don’t like sticky sun protection lotions on my arms or legs when I’m working outside. Debris tends to stick to me if the cream I’m using is sticky or greasy. I’ll use it on my other exposed skin because some protection is better than none.
