Thanks to Tomoson & Graindrops I received two bottles of beverage for the purpose of review.
My kids and I love yogurt and kefir. My husband did too until his lactose intolerance began to affect even his ability to consume these items. It was a bit worrisome for me to know he could no longer eat yogurt or even take a probiotic that was lactose based without getting sick. So when I saw this review come up I jumped at it even though the nearest store for me to purchase the Graindrops was 150 miles away!
It was fortuitous that my husband was doing work in Cleveland. He was able to pick up the Original and Blueberry flavors of the Graindrops koji drink at a local Whole Foods market. The dairy manager said they had just gotten them in and these were the only two flavors they had.
Koji is a fermented grain beverage made mainly with rice. It made session then that the Original flavor had a flavor and scent very similar to sake. In this one you could certainly tell what you were drinking was grain based and not dairy. I reserved this one for use in smoothies and mixed beverages to help mask the sourness a bit. The blueberry Graindrops drink was delicious. Perfectly sweet with just a touch of sourness paired either the fresh flavor of blueberry. You almost couldn’t tell it wasn’t dairy.
The texture is thicker than milk and lighter than kefir. About like buttermilk but not as rich. Like I said it was good in smoothies and just straight. It just dawned on me that frozen it would be good to for a healthy non dairy snack.
For someone lactose intolerant I feel that this koji drink would be a health and digestive life saver. Plenty of probiotic benefits are in the mix that many lactose intolerant people wouldn’t be getting normally. when my husband was sick I asked him to drink plentyof the probiotic beverage in addition to a supplement. Helped him bounce back from his ailment pretty quickly. I appreciated also that Graindrops is also gluten free. So many out there are experiencing multiple allergies that it can be daunting to find ways to make up for what you are missing.
It’s available at Whole Foods markets nation wide. Check out the Graindrops.com website for locations.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
