Thanks to Naturepedic I received a twin size organic cotton flannel waterproof fitted mattress cover for the purposes of this review.
When Naturepedic contacted me to review their mattress covers I was really tempted to ask for one for my queen bed, but I knew that my little girl’s mattress needed one more than I did. She sweats profusely when she sleeps and though she has been potty trained since two and a half there is always the potential for accidents. Plus, I can’t tell you how many times, even though I’ve told her again and again, not to take food and drink into her room or get into bed with stinky feet she still does it. One day she’ll learn, but in the meantime I have to worry about how to clean and dry the mattress! I can’t exactly throw it into the washing machine. That would be nice though because I’d be able to wash out all the sweat, body soil and (gulp) dust mites that accumulate on the mattress. But alas even a crib mattress can’t be thrown into the washing machine.
This is where the Naturepedic organic cotton mattress cover comes into play. It is available in a waterproof variety which is what I opted for to assure maximum protection. The organic cotton flannel is tightly woven and protects the mattress from accumulating any grime or sweat. The material is thick and soft to the touch. My experiences with other mattress covers is that they are made with synthetic materials and backed with heavy plastic that makes sleeping very uncomfortable because it holds and reflects back your body heat. Not the Naturepedic. Even the waterproof variety is breathable and my daughter wakes up fresh and not overly sweaty. In addition to preventing accidents from spills, smells or other unfortunate events the fact that she is comfortable and the mattress cover doesn’t exacerbate her sweating is a definite plus.
The waterproof organic cotton mattress cover is great for babies and kids, but it’s also fantastic for adults. We all sweat and get smelly. Nursing mothers have to contend with leakage day and night. If the kids want to come snuggle with mom and dad you have to worry about their accidents or leaky diapers ruining your mattress. Ladies you know, from puberty to menopause, we have to contend and manage our monthly gift which makes sleeping uncomfortable at best – who wants to try to wash that out of a mattress. The Naturepedic waterproof mattress cover is breatheable for comfortable sleep and impermeable so even if your sheets and the cover get wet – YOUR MATTRESS WILL NOT. When it does get dirty you can throw it in the washing machine with a gentle detergent and dry it in your dryer at home or at the laundry mat.
When I got the mattress cover out of the package I immediately put it on my daughters mattress. I appreciated that it has elastic straps at all four corners to hold it securely to the mattress. The way my daughter swirls and whirls while she sleeps rolls up anything under her that isn’t securely held to the mattress. I decided to put it to the test with a few ounces of warm water. The water was poured slowly on the mattress cover and allowed to sit there for 15 minutes. During this time the water pooled on the surface of the mattress cover soaking only into the top layer of cotton flannel. I was able to recover almost the full amount of water by sopping up the excess pooled on the surface with a wash cloth and squeezing it into the cup. Then I simply removed the cover and tossed it into the dryer on low for 30 minutes and it was like it had never even been wet. By the way, the mattress was completely dry too :).

this Pillow would benefit my little nephew, who is still has bed-wetting issues.
A good safety test allows for no more than two fingers to fit between the mattress and the bars/side of the crib
learned that it’s important to have a healthy mattress & pad
I learned that they sell organic mattress toppers and pillows too!
I learned that they are a Certified Organic Mattress Manufacturer & Made in the USA!!!
I’m so sick of stuff that comes out of China. Yes, it may be cheaper, but so much is tainted with heavy chemicals that few people know about until someone gets sick. I was happy to try this US made product.
I love that they are made in usa! Also I would love to try a mattress if I could afford one for the whole family!
The Symphony organic luxury mattress looks like a dream to sleep on.
I need a waterproof cover for my baby’s crib mattress, but I’m concerned about the harmful effects of plastic, chemicals, and other substances typical covers are made of. This looks like it would help set my mind at ease. I do wonder, though, if the softness would add too much padding to the crib and compromise safety, and if it’s waterproof enough (though it seemed to be in your test). Thanks for the review.
This cover is not “padded” at all. As a matter of fact the crib pads I used when my kids were babies were more padded. Think of it as thick flannel – not fluffy, but dense creating a waterproof mat that is all at once comfortable and waterproof.
I would also love to try the Organic Cotton/PLA Pillow!
I love that its organic, and safe for my family.
Love that mattress covers is that they are made with synthetic materials and backed with heavy plastic that makes sleeping very uncomfortable because it holds and reflects back your body heat.
I learned that most mattresses are made in the USA from petrochemicals, synthetic materials and chemical additives.
I learned that there are no harmful toxins or chemicals in the products.
I like the kids 2-in-1 ultra mattress.
There are no toxins or chemicals used.
Thank you for the contest!
I love how the baby mattresses are non-toxic. I really would love to try the waterproof mattress cover since my son is on IV fluids over night he tends to have a lot of accidents haha.
Thanks so much
This mattress cover is exactly what I need, I had bought one from walmart a couple years back and it said it was waterproof and when my daughter slept in my bed and peed it, well it did not work! The mattress was soaked and was a pain to clean 🙁 This cover sounds quite luxurious though 🙂 It is nice to see that this cover does not have any chemicals either, my other one stunk really bad 🙁
Between lactation leaks and bed-wetting accidents I’ve tried my fair share of mattress covers as well. I do have one for my mattress that is waterproof, but I don’t use it anymore because it makes me sweat terribly and is a pain to wash and dry. The smell of the plastic liner is pretty disgusting, isn’t it?
I learned naturepedic was founded by parents
NO CHEMICALS, SAFE FOR EVREYONE & THING
Wow!! This sounds fantastic and how awesome is it that you managed to recover almost the entire 4oz. of water you poured onto the cover. Incredible! I’d love to win one for my queen bed.
These are made of natural fire resistant materials.
I’d like the Organic Kapok/Cotton Pillow
I learned these are made in the USA. Thats something I look for in products I buy!
I would like the Organic Kapok/Cotton Pillow
I like the pillows & pillowcases.
This organic mattress cover sounds great. I like that it is waterproof and organic. It should be cool and comfy.
I would really love to try their organic changing pad!
This mattress cover looks very nice. Thanks for the interesting and informative review!
Good bedding is so important!
Sorry I missed this one! That looks like a really good mattress cover.
It is a great mattress cover and so easy to care for too.
This looks amazing. We really need one of these.
It is great for kids or if you sweat a lot at night.
I need one of these for my son’s bed. I just got a mattress from Naturepedic!
Awesome! I’m so jealous. I’d love to try one of their mattresses.
I like that cover – especially that it’s organic. I’ll have to look into these for my kiddos!
I wish I would have known about these sooner. Having used the traditional plastic backed waterproof mattress covers my daughters would wake up in cold sweats. So it was either discomfort or risk of staining the mattress because of an accident. I feel bad for them. At least they don’t remember that much and now I have something better for them to use. I just have to save and get one for my own bed.
I love that this is organic. I will have to look into getting some of these for my home.
The fact that it is breathable really appealed to me too. So no chemically smells and no trapping of heat.
thanks Lucero De La Tierra for your valuable suggestion.
