I received this roller as a complimentary sample in exchange for my honest review. I had been looking for a foam roller, but the prices seemed too steep for what they were – PVC wrapped in foam. They just looked like my weight would crush them on my first try to use them. When I saw this massage stick a pain in the neck and in my lower back moved me to apply for it. At first I was a little concerned about the non-flexing and the hard rollers. Once I used it on my calf muscles after a long hilly walk I realized I had nothing to be concerned about. Even though the little rollers aren’t soft I control how much pressure I put on the muscle.
This No Flex Muscle Roller from Fitness Answered Training works great for massaging my lower back and the tops of my hips that get tense from sitting and from doing squats, lunges and dead-lifts. So often either from sitting too long in front of the computer or sleeping in a weird position I’ll get stiffness in my neck and trapezius muscles. Pinning myself to the corner of a doorway used to be the only way to put any kind of pressure on this area to try and get relief. It works (sort of) but there isn’t much in the way of massage involved. Using this roller I can pinpoint where the pain is with a surprising degree of accuracy and roll until the knots are gone or my arms get tired.
The only reason I give this a 4 instead of a 5 is I wish it were just a tad bit longer so I didn’t have to stretch the front of my shoulder so much to grab the stick behind my back to roll over the trapezius muscles. Even though the lower arm doesn’t have to do much moving holding the stick steady at the bottom in that position can start to cause almost as many problems as it’s solving. Maybe I need to work on my range of motion. One thing I have yet to use it for is warming up before a workout.
