MHO Monday Mingle #5
Our Senior year High School production of West Side Story. My best friend in high school and I had a hand in choreographing the musical’s dance numbers and I was privileged to play the role of ‘Anita’. My big number “I Like to Be in America” made the cover of the local paper in one of the most provocative, although still high school appropriate dance moves of the evening :$. This was great fun because I wasn’t a jock or a cheerleader. I was a nerd and kept to myself. Choir was my outlet; I loved to sing. . . and still do.
Hah! Popular? What’s that? I befriended those who had no one. The broken and tattered who longed for acceptance. That didn’t exactly make me popular. Being serious about my education didn’t make me popular either. There were days that it bothered me, but for the most part I didn’t want to be part of the elite. I saw how the acted and treated others and I knew that wasn’t the place for me.
