I have a confession to make: I’m terrible at party planning. It’s not that I don’t enjoy it and revel in the pressure of cooking for a crowd. There are just so many people, women in particular, in my life that have things just so. The decor in their house changes with the seasons. . . As do their plates and host ware. I’m lucky to have a complete set of matching plates without chips in them. That makes me feel so inadequate and anxious about hosting anything in my humble home. Actually this is one reason I applied to review a set of Leafware Plates from SmartyHadAParty.
When I received the set of plates, small bowls, table runner, knot picks, and matching cloth napkins I thought the whole set looked chic yet approachable. The meal that came to mind was roast pork, maybe even Cochinita Pibil, with baby potatoes, a beautiful green salad, and charcuterie platter with cheeses, meats, pickles and olives to skewer with the cute little picks. Unfortunately, this never came to fruition in the time I had for the review. We all got sick and I mean SICK and then the kids started school and we got sick again. It’s been exhausting. I did though have a chance to use the plates with the family.
My kids were enthralled with the texture and natural patterns on the plates and bowls. Cookie was impressed by the fact they were made from fallen palm leaves and water ONLY – no glue, no plastics, no resins and no chemicals. The plates are also microwave safe on high up to 2 minutes and oven safe to 350° for 45 minutes. The little bowl s are so cute. We used them for pickles, but they’d be good for sauces and salsas too. It should be noted that the plates will absorb liquid over time. They aren’t as porous and weak as an uncoated paper plate but they are not waterproof. They are intended for single use only. I did however experiment with washing them with warm soapy water. I would not recommend soaking them for any period of time because even under the running water I could feel the plates softening.
I’m really looking forward to breaking the set out when I finally have a dinner party. Do you like to have parties? Would you like to win a set just like mine? Enter below in the GT form if you are 18+ and a resident of the contiguous US (lower 48).
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using a PR service. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
