This Vitamin C + Hyaluronic Acid serum is one of the thicker ones I’ve tried so far. It has a higher percentage of aloe vera so it makes the consistency a bit on the sticky side. The aloe vera also gives it a bit of an unpleasant smell. It takes a few extra minutes for the serum to absorb completely and for the dewy feeling to be gone. If you don’t like the feeling of being sticky or taking a few extra minutes before you continue with your beauty routine then I would not recommend this serum. This added thickness though does allow for a few extra seconds more to spread the serum evenly over your face, neck and decolletage.
I did notice however that it took a little longer than other formulations to produce results. It makes me wonder if this has to do with the thickness of Dr. Song’s serum. Then again I did NOT notice the mention of Hyaluronic Acid in the ingredients. Is the amount so insignificant that they don’t even put it on the list???
I noticed in reading other reviews that many had issues with thickening and darkening of the serum if left out of refrigeration or in direct light. I did not have those problems in part because I had an unfortunate mishap with the bottle. During a trip the top came unscrewed and spilled all over the inside of my travel makeup case. I lost about half the bottle. 🙁
On the Dr. Song Medical website there are some important instructions –
Vitamin C/Hyaluronic Acid Instructions
General guidelines:
1. Store away from sunlight and extreme heat, in a cool dark place. Vitamin C serum should be stored in refrigerator for best shelf life. Pure hyaluronic acid serum does not require refrigeration.
2. Use once per day. A little bit goes a long way and only a thin layer is needed. The serum greatly enhances any moisturizer, so make sure to apply a good moisturizer immediately after. If using with Retinol or Retin-A, apply the serum first and allow to dry for 10-15 minute before applying.
3. Immediate results are not uncommon, but please use for at least 30 days to see optimal results.
4. This product is safe for all skin types.Directions:
Wash face and pat dry. Apply a thin layer of serum and allow to dry. Finish by applying a good moisturizer once the serum has completely dried.
This is the first serum I’ve tried that asks you to jump through extra product hoops to achieve results. This is a bit of a turn off. I’ve had almost immediate results with other brands that I missed out on with this one.
