At 5’1″ I’ll never be a Rockette, a leggy burlesque dancer or a long, graceful ballerina. That doesn’t mean I can’t at least try to improve my flexibility, strength, and endurance to be as physically fit as a dancer. I received the video Pilates For Dancers for the purposes of review.
I was skeptical at first how effectively Pilates was going to be at toning and strengthening anything. I’d tries it in the past from books and exercise cards with little success. Apparently my approach and understanding of the movements was lacking at the time. Following the instructions of the trainer on this video led me to discover muscle groups I did nor know could ache the way they did after just one session.
From my experience with the Revolt Now Fitness program I can do deep squats, push ups, planks, and lunges with the best advanced beginner (yes, I’m a wimp). In one 45 minute session of concentrated and focused effort doing Pilates I was tired, sore, winded and beaten. Ladies, if you have problems with pelvic floor weakness consider getting this video. Not only will you strengthen and tone your core but you will also start to tone the muscles in the delicate pelvic area.
I have no illusions that I’ll ever be a professional ball room dancer. My hope is that with continued exercise and practice I’ll be able to increase my endurance and improve my form.
