I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for mike’s hard lemonade. I received a Circle K gift card to facilitate this review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.

Moms you know life can be stressful.  We all have responsibilities. . . and lots of them.  We women have the tendency to think of others – our families, friends or jobs – before ourselves.  Stress and heredity contribute to one of the most frightening health issues a person can face – cancer.  How can we “treat ourselves” to counteract the effects of stress and fight back against heredity?

Eat Well

Take the time to prepare yourself a decent breakfast and lunch. These are the meals that tend to suffer the most. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but make sure it’s balanced.  You need lean protein, good fats, fiber from fruits and veggies and water to drink.  As much as we’d like to think filling our tummies with a latte and muffin (aka cupcake without the frosting) is enough you could be boarding the stress train before you even step foot out of the house. . . or the coffee shop :).

Get Organized

Planning your time, putting things away and making sure your house and office have some semblance of order can reduce your stress later.  Do your best.  This is one area that I need more work in, but I try a little every day.  Make a list, draw up a schedule or do whatever works for you and your situation.

Make Time for Exercise

You don’t have to run a marathon, but planning to walk a few hundred more steps today can do wonders for your health tomorrow.  Take the stairs.  Do some squats at break time to get the blood flowing.  Any little bit of exertion that gets the heart pumping and blood to the brain can temporarily give you an oxygen high and clear your thinking.

Take Some “ME” Time

You may not be 5 anymore, but that’s not to say a nap wouldn’t be enjoyable.  Plan 30 minutes out of your week to watch your favorite show.  What do you find cathartic? Do you like to hang out with friends, watch the sunset, craft, sew, sing, dance or play a sport?  DO IT!  Then you can sit back and have a crisp, refreshing mike’s hard pink lemonade and reflect on all the good in your life.

Mike’s Hard Lemonade Co. is celebrating their 15th anniversary and sharing their passion for helping others with you.  Since 2009 mike’s has released their seasonal hard pink lemonade each year in support of breast cancer research.  They’ve contributed more than $1 million to the cause.

Next time your on the run doing errands, taking kids to practice or just out getting fuel for the car you can get some “fuel” for you and the gang at Circle K.  Not only do they carry the mike’s pink hard lemonade flavored with real lemons – the juice and the zest, but they offer all kinds of healthy, fun and convenient snacks for the family on the go.

Circle K helped me fill more than just my gas tank.  The day I went to pick up my six pack of mike’s hard pink lemonade I was able to grab a gallon of milk, some eggs, a couple bags of chips and a f’real mango smoothie (for the ride home).  Some needs for the family and some wants to share with them later.

I had a few moments later that evening to indulge in a mike’s hard pink lemonade while I watched the sunset paint the sky bright orange and yellow behind the grey blue clouds as the moon rose in the east.  It was a refreshing pairing to a beautiful view.

  1. Pinkwashing Hall of Shame

This is total pinkwashing. Alcohol consumption is a contributor to increased cancer risk. And, Mike’s is keeping WAY more money than they are donating. This isn’t about breast cancer. It’s about jumping onto the bandwagon to market their product. And it’s shameful.

I appreciate your point of view. Not every person has the same interests or would be moved by the same things. Fact of the matter, they are contributing something when otherwise they would contribute nothing. Take it how you will, I believe their campaign was intended to encourage women think about themselves a bit for a change since they realize we tend to extend ourselves for the health and well being of others before our own. Sometimes that means taking time to relax. If we choose to do that with or without a drink in our hands is our business.

This stuff is not healthy for those trying to prevent breast cancer.

Those are great tips for “treating yourself”! The Mike’s Pink Lemonade is yummy, I wish they had a gluten free version.

Obviously, everything in moderation! But it is nice they are CHOOSING to support breast cancer research.

Hi Krissy, thanks for your thoughts. I found an interesting article on The Savvy Celiac about Mike’s and their gluten free claim. According to industry standard tests their product has less than 5 ppm (parts per million); the testing institute says anything under 20 ppm is deemed gluten free. Everyone’s sensitivity to gluten is different, though.

Their mike’s lite and mike’s cranberry lite are the only two now that they say for certain are gluten free.

Definitely some good tips to remain healthy and I am glad they are contributing – but yeah, it is kind of like when my orthopedic surgeon was my dance teacher. It was almost like instant business for himself. I would dance, break bones, he would fix me up then send me back out…

I actually tried my first Mike’s Hard on Sunday. I don’t drink too often because of medications that I am on, but one every once in a great while isn’t awful. Perhaps I might treat myself to a pink lemonade this season! I do love pink lemonade!
