Years ago I switched from a manual to an electric toothbrush because I felt my teeth got cleaner with the extra help. I also regularly floss my teeth and carry a dental pick with me everywhere to help release stuck food particles from my teeth. Never did I think that what I was doing was not good enough until I tried the Smarson Home Dental Center. Thanks to Smarson I received this system at a substantial discount in exchange for my honest review.
The Smarson Home Dental Center consists of the following –
- Sonic toothbrush – 2 minute timer with 30 second intervals, 3 modes (High, Soft & Massage), high speed sonic waves ~31,000VPM on an inductive charging base
- 3 color coded regular brush heads for family use
- Hygienic brush head storage container
- 1 Interdental brush head
- Water flosser – rechargeable, 150ml water tank, 3 modes with LED indication, 2 minute cycle, high speed flow (1400PPM), separate charger
- 2 standard nozzles
- 1 tongue cleaner
- 1 orthodontic tip
- High quality lighted dental mirror
The small headed, soft bristled sonic toothbrush polishes my teeth clean with three powerful yet adjustable settings. I have sensitive teeth so I usually use the middle setting (S). The smaller head allows me to reach farther back in my mouth than my traditional manual or electric toothbrush. Once my daughters saw this system set up on the bathroom counter they each begged to have their own brush head. Thankfully, because of the color coding I was able to give them each one. I was floored to see how after just a few uses my oldest daughters teeth looked so much whiter and brighter. It took a bit of practice using the brush to prevent toothpaste splatter during use since it runs on a 2 minute cycle in 30 second intervals which you cannot pause. If you stop the brush at all during the cycle it resets for another full cycle. Another issue we have encountered is that the toothbrush is easy to knock out of its charging dock and sometimes the brush heads are a bit difficult to remove. Sometimes I even need a bit of help from something grippy to pull the brush head free of the sonic brush body. The hygienic storage compartment behind the sonic brush is very handy to keep the brush heads from getting dirty, dusty or lost.
I love the little interdental brush head because it allows me to polish behind my farthest molars and in between the teeth where the regular brush head may miss. Used together with the regular brush head and the water flosser my mouth almost felt direct from the dentist’s office clean. The lighted dental mirror is fog resistant so I can see the condition of my teeth from a vantage point before out of my reach.
It may seem silly, but I was really excited to try the water flosser. A water flosser has been in my list of things to research and eventually buy for some time now. This water flosser has a small reservoir for water. It works OK to floss your whole mouth if you move quickly. The high setting was a little bit too much for me and actually felt painful. Like I mentioned I have sensitive teeth so I learned very quickly to set it to low – which you can do without turning the unit on – and to use warm but not hot water to minimize discomfort. Though it took a bit of getting used to the sensation of a water jet in my mouth I was floored by how many bits of food came out from around my teeth even after brushing and flossing with regular floss. I have yet to get used to using the Orthodontic tip or the tongue cleaner, but the standard nozzle does just what I need to remove debris I didn’t even know was there. I do wish the water flosser had one setting gentler than it’s current low.
When I first took the system out of the box I thought it was going to be too big or be in the way on our countertop. Though we have had to make some adjustments to access the outlet behind it the system is not obtrusive. The charging for the water flosser is not very convenient as the charger is separate (aka I need to keep track of it separately) and requires another outlet. It is too bad it isn’t configured for inductive charging like the sonic brush.
